EP-ESE plays an active role in the Vertex Locator (VeLo) of the LHCb experiment at CERN.

ESE designed the VeloPIX ASIC together with collaborating institutes. This is used to read out pixel detectors for precise tracking and vertex detection in LHCb. We also supported the development of evaporative micro-channel cooling for Velo modules in collaboration with industry. ESE is also responsible for coordinating the design and production of the rest of the VeLo electronics system, from data transmission to power distribution.

ESE is now active in designing a new ASIC for the VeLo in Upgrade 2 of LHCb.
